Do you believe in faeries?
More often than not, you would think this is a question asked by a young child to an adult, as if seeking confirmation or approval for what may be a figment of their imagination. But did you know, there's a whole lot of people out there with "wee folk fever", on a never ending quest to seek out the truth? Many have even made their fortunes from their belief.
In my mind, it's not so much as whether one believes in anything or not, it's more about how you feel when you believe or don't believe.
After all, who am I to tell anyone what is real and what isn't...so what if people think you're a little odd, is that so bad? I mean, everyone has their quirks, right? Do I think that a person who has a fear of spiders and panics every time one comes near them, that they are wierd? Isn't that just a figment of their imagination? Or what about being afraid of the dark, or scared of balloons? Do people think any different of those type of folks? I think not, they are given a look of empathy and an "oh you poor thing, it's all right"... There are terms for all of these conditions, but is there even a term for "believing in faeries"? Is it okay for someone to believe in angels but not for someone to believe in faeries?
My fascination with the fairy world has been pretty much a part of my heritage. In Scotland, as in many countries, folklore plays a major part in its history and its culture. The Celts were strong believers in "the little folk", and shame on those who didn't abide by the lore.
