Of course, in years gone by, the fairy weren't the "nice wee folk" we imagine them to be today, oh no, they were mean and mischevious, playing tricks and casting evil spells on some poor souls. It is only the perception derived from the images of today's artists which lead us to believe in the romantic and pretty side of the world of fae.
I love faeries! Everything faerie! I have a virtual library of faerie books. I love to look at images, read stories, and research folklore about faeries...and for this reason, not a lot of time goes by when you won't see a faerie or two pop up in my work...you can find them almost anywhere.
Recently when I was showing someone the children's book and animation I'm working on, they asked why I spelled faerie the way I do, and perhaps I had misspelled it. There are many ways you will see it written, faerie, fairie, fairy are only a few...I like to take mine from the "land of fae" and that's why I spell it faerie, no, it's not wrong, just unusual. And why shouldn't such a mysterious little creature have a different spelling of it's name? It seems so much more mystical and ethereal.
Perhaps it's all superstition and old wives tales, perhaps it's real. It is so hard for people to believe in something they can't see...or is it?
