Do we really know what to feed a wild animal? Is cow's milk the best to give an orphaned animal? Is an orphaned animal really orphaned? What about caging requirements? Do we know the potential personal risks involved?
There are so many questions to ask and points to consider, and knowledge is your best friend in these situations.
But that shouldn't deter you if you really want to help out wild animals. There are lots of things you can do from actually caring for an animal, to helping out organizations in need. Information regarding permits and regulations can be obtained from your local Conservation Offices, and wildlife organizations carry a wealth of information and knowlegeable people.
I am a current member of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Saskatchewan (WRSOS) who has a hotline you can call. They have lots of volunteer opportunities for interested people.
I am also a member of the International International Wildlife Rehabilitation Council (IWRC), this is where I am taking my training from, and soon to be a member of the National Wildlife Rehabilitation Association (NWRA). I support the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the World Wildlife Fund.
